Fujifilm X-M1 Memory Card Compatibility

The Fujifilm X-M1 uses SD, SDHC, & SDXC memory cards. To avoid problems when recording video, cards should be Class 10 with a UHS-I rating.

In the time since the intro of Fujifilm X-M1, the cost of cards has dropped.

Since prices are cheap, it is not going to be shrewd to pick anything but a professional-level memory card.

The best cards I have owned have been the SanDisk Extreme Pro, Lexar Professional, and PNY Elite Performance models. I have never had corrupted data or a card failure with those SD cards.

Every one of the complications I have experienced has been with low-cost unbranded cards. Seeking to save a small amount of money isn’t worth the cost if your X-M1 will not function correctly.

Only SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards can be used by the Fujifilm X-M1. Ensure you have the most recently released firmware installed on your camera for the best overall performance.

The newest SDUC (Secure Digital Ultra Capacity) memory cards, will not be usable in the X-M1.

Speed ratings of an SD card is determined by the sequential write and read speeds. The write speed of a SD memory card is important for clearing the buffer for continuous shooting and recording video.

A slow card can reduce the number of continuous images the Fujifilm X-M1 can capture. This is because the buffer in the camera is not able to write to the card fast enough.

When recording video, a slow card can cause recording to stop. The video file might also be corrupted. If you intend to capture video, it is essential the memory card you use meets the requirements of the X-M1.

The Ultra High Speed bus (UHS) can often be found in SDUC, SDXC, and SDHC memory cards. The UHS bus makes it possible for faster data transfer rates.

There are 3 different specifications. They are called UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.

You can figure out the UHS rating of a memory card by checking the front of the SD card. The presence of a Roman numeral I, II, or III on the front of the SD memory card, that is the rating of the card.

  • UHS-I - Maximum transfer rate of 104 MB/s
  • UHS-II - Maximum transfer rate of 312 MB/s
