Like all things tech, the pricing of SD memory cards has greatly fallen since the release of the Panasonic GM1.

Seeing as how cheap costs are, it is not going to make financial sense to get anything but a professional-level memory card.

The best memory cards I use have been the SanDisk Extreme Pro, Lexar Professional, and PNY Elite Performance models. I have not endured corrupted data or a card failure with those memory cards.

All of the issues I have encountered has been due to generic unbranded memory cards. Trying to save around a dollar isn’t worthwhile if your GM1 is going to experience problems.

A savvy way to spend less money is to buy a lower storage capacity SD memory card from a quality company. Because of this, you’ll not have to fret about the photos stored on the SD memory card.

Panasonic GM1 SD Card Compatibility

The cards compatible with the Panasonic GM1 are SDXC, SDHC, and SD. Check to be sure that you have the most recently released firmware installed on your camera for the best functionality.

The newest SDUC (Secure Digital Ultra Capacity) cards, can’t be used in the GM1.

You should understand the four different types of Secure Digital (SD) cards that can be found. They are divided by their capactiy.

Speed, Class, & UHS Ratings

Card Speed

Speed ratings of an SD memory card is dependant on the sequential write and read transfer speeds. Memory card write speed is critical for continuous shooting and video.

A slow card can cause a drop in the number of continuous frames the Panasonic GM1 can capture. This is because the camera’s buffer will not be able to write data to the card quickly enough.

With video, a slow SD card can cause recording to stop. The video file may also be corrupted. If you are going to record video, it is important the card you use meets the minimum requirements of the GM1.

Card read speed is nice to have for transferring files to a computer. If you are filling up cards with images or video, a card with a fast transfer speed will reduce the transfer time.

Speed Class Rating

A card receives a Class rating dependant upon its sustained write speed. Memory cards that have a write speed of at least 10MB/s will be labeled Class 10.

• Class 4 - 4MB/s
• Class 6 - 6MB/s
• Class 8 - 8MB/s
• Class 10 - 10MB/s or faster

Every name-brand memory card that you can buy will be Class 10. To locate the class rating of a SD card, try to find a number inside of the C on the front.

Ultra High Speed (UHS)

The Ultra High Speed bus (UHS) is found in SDHC, SDXC, and SDUC cards. UHS memory cards to have faster read and write speeds.

There are 3 different specs. The versions are UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.

Look at the front of the memory card to find the UHS rating of a SD card. If the memory card has UHS, a Roman numeral I, II, or III can be seen on the front of the memory card.
